Licensing Update: High Level Summary

Our app, Control-Freak - Commit Checkers and Jira Hooks for Bitbucket ("Control-Freak"), has transitioned from a free license to a paid license as of August 1st, 2024. Before August 1st, 2024 we only offered a single paid app (PR-Booster), but as of August 1st we now offer two paid apps (PR-Booster and Control-Freak).

The Control-Freak app has evolved over the years such that it now contains more lines of code than all of our other apps combined. It also recieves 3x more support requests compared to our other apps, despite being free. With increasing maintanance costs, including a very challenging migration to Bitbucket 9.x, we could not keep this app free any longer.

We understand and sympathize with our customers for the difficulty this causes. To help make-up for this surprise price change we have made three decisions:

1. First, the app will behave 100% identically as before, even when unlicensed, until March 20th, 2025. There will be no penalty or limitations imposed on Control-Freak installations, including upgraded installations, until then (an 8 month warning period).
2. Second, after March 20th, 2025, the logic will NEVER disrupt your existing Control-Freak workflows and rules, even when unlicensed. We will block config MODIFICATIONS after March 20th, 2025 (at the project and repository level) when unlicensed, but we will NEVER alter, limit, or disable your existing Git policy and rules, no matter what licensing state the app is in (e.g., expired or unlicensed). In addition, config modifications at the GLOBAL level will always remain available.
3. Finally, anyone with a PR-Booster license can have a coupon-code for a free Control-Freak license, and vice versa. Existing PR-Booster customers also running Control-Freak will not see any price increase for their Bit-Booster total annual licensing costs (they will actually see a price reduction).

Coupon Codes

Our vision was always that Control-Freak would be co-installed with PR-Booster. These two apps work together very well creating synergies and efficiencies for your users. For example, if Control-Freak complains that a Jira reference in a commit message is incorrect, PR-Booster's "Amend" button can be used to edit and push a repaired commit message directly from Bitbucket's pull-request screen.
